When you are in the storm of your life

What is a storm?

A storm can be described as an unexpected predicament or an uncontrollable situation that a person finds themselves in that they are unable to handle or cope with.

A storm can come in many different ways and different directions. For some people, their storm is fighting a deadly disease such as cancer. For others, it’s a messy divorce, loss of a loved one, a womb that is barren, a house that is about to be repossessed or a debt that triggered a bankruptcy.

The dictionary definition of a storm is a violent disturbance of an atmosphere filled with strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning or snow.

In Matthew 8:23-27 The Bible says:

“Then Jesus got into a boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The disciples were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

In Matthew 8:23-27, the disciples found themselves in a deadly storm while travelling by boat. Their reaction was conventional as they panicked for their lives. Then, they made a decision that changes their dilemma. They cried out to Jesus. The Bible says, “the  disciples went and woke Jesus up saying, Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

Perhaps you are in the storm of your life and you see no way out. Don’t forget  that  Jesus is right in the storm with you. Perhaps you have tried various methods, routines, systems and self help practices to calm the storms you are facing but have yielded  no results.

When the wisdom of man fails, the infinite wisdom of God prevails. What man cannot do, God is able to do because with God all things are possible.

Jesus has power over any storm; like the disciples said, “even the winds and the sea obey him” (Matthew 8:27). Whatever storm you may find yourself in, if you will call on God in prayer and stand firm on the principles of the Word of God, the Lord will rebuke the storm in your life and overturn the storm that was supposed to destroy you and turn it around for your good.

The Bible says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you”( Isaiah 43:2). God is able to split the ocean and make a way for you when there seem to be no way.
