“Backsliding, generally first begins with neglect of private prayer” (J. C. Ryle).
“For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple’”
(Jonah 2:3-4 ).
The above is a prayer of Jonah after rebellion against God. Prayer was the pathway that connected him back to God and enabled him to complete his divine assignment.
God said, “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely for mine anger is turned away from them” (Hosea 14:4).
Even when the most wicked person turns to God with sincere prayer and repentance, God hears, answers and delivers him from destruction.
God said “Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backsliding. Indeed we will come back to You, For You are the LORD our God” (Jeremiah 3:22).
