AT THE FEET OF JESUS

There are numerous postures and methods by which individuals may approach God in prayer. Some choose to stand, while others may opt to kneel, sit, or even prostrate themselves on the ground. Is there any symbolic or spiritual significance in the posture one adopts when approaching God in prayer?

Certain individuals in the Bible, for instance, knelt at the feet of Jesus in times of need and got His attention.

In Luke 8:41 and 51-54 the Bible says,

And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus feet and begged Him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying”.

Vs 51-54,
“When He came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl. Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, “Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping. And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Little girl, arise.” Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat”.

Jairus fell down at the feet of Jesus and begged Him to come and heal his 12 year old daughter. Falling on your knees is a form of humility, it’s a way to demonstrate honour, its a form of submission, and surrender.

In Luke 8:27-29, there was a man who had an encounter with Jesus. The man had a mental health problem. He was lunatic, he was insane. The Bible records that when the man met Jesus, he fell down before Him (as a form of surrender). We read,

“And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man” (Luke 8:27-29 KJV).

When you learn to surrender and lay your burdens at the feet of Jesus, He is able to lift the load off your back just as He did on the cross at Calvary for the entire human race.

At the cross, they nailed both of the feet of Jesus. Therefore, when you kneel at His nail piercing feet by faith, you will encounter His grace, mercy and compassion and there is a perfect exchange. He will take away your agony and pain and replace them with divine strength and tranquility. He is the only person anointed to liberate you from all your troubles.

In Luke 7:36-38, the Bible says that a woman who was a sinner had a unique experience with Jesus where she washed Jesus feet with her tears and an expensive perfume.

In Luke 77:36-38, we read,
And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat. And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, and stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment”.

When we humble ourselves before Jesus, be it in worship or through prayer, he elevates us and transforms us, as his divine touch consistently brings about healing and deliverance. The touch of Jesus imparts supernatural power to heal even the most incurable of illnesses. Read Mark 5:30.

The touch of Jesus liberates us from spiritual constraints, dispelling uncertainties, and vacillations. It eradicates apprehension and unease, instilling assurance, belief and bravery. Furthermore, the touch of Jesus imparts prophetic foresight and infuses optimism into dire circumstances.

In Revelation 1:7, upon witnessing the resurrected Christ, Apostle John humbly surrendered and fell at His feet, prompting Jesus to extend His hand and alleviate his apprehension.

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as deadAnd he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last” (Revelations 1:17).

May the hands of the Lord graciously illuminate your life as you humbly submit yourself entirely to Him. May the Holy Spirit bestow upon you an encounter that leaves a profound imprint on your life, resulting in a testimony to be shared to the nation in the incomparable name of Jesus, Amen.
