“The wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:2-3).
The scripture presented above illustrates Satan’s strategic tactics aimed at the destruction of God’s people. The weapon he employs in this particular scripture is a spiritual bow, targeting the believer’s heart with the intention of premature death. While many profess that ‘no weapon formed against them shall prosper’, it is evident that Satan’s weapons often prevail against believers.
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 3:11,
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ”. In the book of Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus uses a house as a metaphor to describe the believer.
The foundation is not readily observable to the naked eye, as it is concealed from view. For instance, every building possesses a foundation that lies below the surface, serving as the structural support for the entire edifice. Failure to establish a foundation rooted in the teachings of God may leave one vulnerable to the schemes of the adversary and ill-equipped to withstand challenges in times of hardship.
“Therefore whosoever hearer’s these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it”. (Matthew 7:24-27).
The Bible says in 127:1,
“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it”
The strength of a house is dependent on the quality of its foundation. Many individuals of the faith may have a compromised foundation as they fail to embody the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The bible says in Jesus 1:22, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves”.
Neglecting to implement the Word of God as a fundamental guiding principle can lead to vulnerabilities in one’s spiritual life, making them susceptible to the attacks of the adversary.
Therefore, the breastplate of righteousness referenced in Ephesians 6:14 is essential for safeguarding one’s heart. It is insufficient to merely recite scriptures without embodying their teachings.
The breastplate of righteousness signifies living a virtuous life in accordance with the teachings of God’s Word. By doing so, you fortify yourself against the spiritual attacks launched by Satan.
I pray that you’ll entrust your path to the Lord and immerse your heart in His divine teachings.
As the psalmist says, “Thy word have I hidden in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11).
May the Lord instill within you a deep desire for His word, and provide you with the strength and wisdom to faithfully adhere to His teachings through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
