Everything you have in Christ came through the mercy of God. The gifts of the spirit, the fruit of the spirit, your health, your protection and most importantly your eternal life are all products of God’s mercy toward you.
The word mercy can be described as compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.
The Bible says in Ephesians 2:4-6 we read, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”.
When God sent His only son Jesus Christ to earth to save mankind, man turned against God and crucified His only begotten son nailing Him on a wooden cross. Nevertheless, God still stretched His arms toward us and still desired to have a relationship with us (Acts 2:36), (Acts 10:1-45). If God dealt with us as though He was a mere human being, all humanity will be sentenced to eternal hell.
If God was like any human being on earth today and His only son was murdered innocently, perhaps He seek for vengeance and might never forgive the perpetrators. The Bible says, “God being rich in mercy” (Ephesians 2:4), forgave us of all our sins (regardless of what that sin may be) and has accepted us in Christ Jesus.
The mercy of the Lord is beyond human comprehension and it’s filled with compassion, grace and love towards humanity, a people He has created in His own image (Genesis 1:27).
The Bible says in Psalm 103:8, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy”.
Many Christians today do not fully understand how merciful God is. Therefore, when they fall into temptation and sin, they quickly run away from God and the Church and slip right back into the world of sin.
Regardless of the sins you have committed, always remember that God is always willing and ready to forgive you of your sins when you sincerely confess them to Him in prayer. There is no sin on earth today that God (who is rich in mercy) cannot forgive.
It was through mercy that God forgave Apostle Paul whom the Bible records was a blasphemer and persecuted Christians. Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 1:12-13 we read,
“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry. Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief”.
If God through mercy, was able to forgive Apostle Paul of his sins, rest assured that God is able to forgive you of all your sins.
May the Holy Spirit continue to increase your revelation in the knowledge of God, to enable you to fully comprehend how merciful God is and how much He has sacrificed graciously for a sinful man to obtain salvation and inherit eternal life.
Prayer
Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal the depths of God’s mercy to you. Pray that you will not take the mercy of God for granted.
Declaration
I declare, that I will walk faithfully with the Lord and not take His mercies for granted in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
