An intercessor is an individual selected by God to bear a burden that leads them to intercede or intervene on behalf of others through prayer.
Intercessors have a very distinctive and unique personality:
- They are chosen by God to lead by example in the area of spiritual discipline and an uncompromising lifestyle of holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:2-7).
They exhibit perseverance and regularity in their prayers, even in the face of delayed answers (Luke 18:1-8).
They are consistently available to pray at any hour of the day or night (Daniel 6:10-28).
They bear the weight of the Lord’s mission within their hearts, desiring the salvation of humanity from the insidious schemes of Satan (Habakkuk 1:1-4, Matthew 11:28-30).
They offer prayers for all individuals without bias, resentment, or favoritism (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
Their intercession is unceasing for the church, particularly its leaders, the unchurched, and the nation, in particular those in positions of authority (1 Thessalonians 5:16).
- They are accustomed to living a lifestyle of prayer and fasting and are sensitive to the movement of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 4:4, Ephesians 4:30).
Have you been designated by the Lord to be an intercessor? It may be for your family members, community, city, country, or the body of Christ as a whole. Many have been summoned by the Lord to intercede and supplicate for others, yet frequently they are unaware of this calling or the directive from the Holy Spirit to engage in prayer for others.
Many are experiencing frustration as a result of the self-serving and worldly decisions being made by leaders within the Christian community. Unfortunately, there is a lack of attention given to the guidance of the Holy Spirit prompting believers to pray for these leaders.
Moreover, many people are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with legislative actions being taken in their respective countries.
Particularly, those laws that go against the principles of God, such as those pertaining to abortion and homosexuality.
Despite this discontent, there is a concerning lack of commitment to engage in prayer for these leaders, imploring them to turn away from their sinful ways and instead seek repentance and return to God.
An intercessor does not play the blame game pointing fingers at others for sinning against God or making poor choices in life.
They promptly display compassion by praying and intervening on behalf of others. An example of this can be found in the story of Abraham in Genesis 18:16-33, where he interceded to God for the city of Sodom, where his nephew Lot and his family resided.
Consider Abraham in Genesis 18:16-33, pleads with God for the city of Sodom where his nephew Lot and his family resided.
Despite the possibility of placing blame on his nephew for his circumstances, Abraham chose to stand in the gap and fervently pray for the safety and well-being of Lot and all the inhabitants of the city.
An intercessor does not easily cease in their prayers; instead, they display a steadfast dedication until receiving a response.
Throughout the Bible, numerous people have interceded on behalf of others, witnessing God’s responses to their petitions.
For example, Daniel fervently prayed for his people and received God’s intervention. (Daniel 9:1-19).
Similarly, Moses, known for his role as an intercessor, continuously prayed for the Israelites despite their persistent defiance of God. (Exodus 32:11,14).
Additionally, he interceded for his sister Miriam, beseeching God for her healing from leprosy as a consequence of speaking against him (Numbers 12:13), and once again, God granted his request.
God is constantly seeking an intercessor, an individual to advocate on behalf of others.
God says in Ezekiel 22:30, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one”.
I implore you to heed the calling, prompting and burden that the Lord has placed upon your heart.
May the Lord empowers you with the Spirit of supplication to pray for those in your midst and potentially those worldwide, in the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Thank you MOG. Firstly, it was a pleasure meeting you in Canada. Secondly, thanks for supporting my sister like you do. Thirdly, thanks for your reply.
Let me share this with you, ffg your email, I decided to go to God about the concerns in my heart. While waiting on Him, the Lord showed me more and more, specifics.
He revealed to me where altars, walls, strongholds have been erected. They have to be pulled down before revival can fully happen. Actually, testimony, while I started praying these prayers, even though, casually, we have seen increase in our Christian fellowship at School. Mind blowing increase and zeal. How much more when we come as a team and frustrate the works of darkness. Exciting 😁
Andrew, I am pleased to announce to you that it’s becoming clearer. Of course, I’m seeing attacks but I know that, He that called me/us for this work, the Employer, never fails to give the complete employee package. The package/benefits that come with the employment includes divine protection, favor, angels on standby Etc.
Thank you and I’m hoping we can always clarify our doubts and questions with you through Valerie in the future.
